Console Quick Setup
The following easy 7 steps are necessary to setup alarm notification and setup email so that you can be notified of offline hosts or agents. If you have not installed the product yet, do so before using this guide. If you need additional help installing, configuring, or using this product, please contact Technical Support

Make Sure That the Console Service is Running
On Windows NT/2000/2003/XP systems, the console is installed, but the service is not enabled by default. To enable the service, go to the Control Panel->Services applet and "Start" the "SiteMaestro Console" service.

On Unix systems, the console is only started if the "Enable Console" question is answered "Y" during the install. If you did not answer yes, then to enable the console, edit the "sm.conf" configuration file. Under the [Console] section, change "enabled=false" to "enabled=true" and save. Then start the console, by entering (Solaris: /etc/init.d/sitemaestro start, Linux: /etc/rc.d/sitemaestro start)

  Browse the Console
If your web browser is not currently displaying the console web interface, open your browser and enter "http://localhost:8081/" in the location or address field and press the Enter key.

  Goto the Configuration Web Page
In the gray menu area on the left, click the link followed by the link. This will place you into the configuration section.

  Add your Agents
By default, the console will already have "localhost" configured. However, to add additional agents, enter each in a comma-seperated list. To detect all agents on a subnet, enter a broadcast address, such as 255.255.255.255:8080. When finished press the button.

  Configure Your Email Server (Optional)
Click on the link. Then, enter your email server information as shown below. If you are running Unix and do not enter SMTP server information, the agent will use the default "mail" or "mailx" command to send Email. When finished press the button.

  Enter Your Email Address (Optional)
Click on the link. Then, click on the edit link for the "Tier1" alias. In the member list, enter the the email address that you wish contacted when an alarm occurs as shown below. All of the default alarms are initially set to contact the "Tier1" alias. When finished press the button.

  Save Your Changes
Click on the "Save" link to save your pending changes.

Congratulations!
The SiteMaestro console will now display the status of your agents and will now notify you when any are offline. You're covered - Thats all there is to it.
